Literature defines Roccalumera, the childhood home of poet Salvatore Quasimodo, winner of the 1959 Nobel Prize in Literature. Quasimodo spent his formative years in this coastal municipality, drawing inspiration from the area for several of his poems. Religious heritage is equally prominent, as the town serves as the motherhouse for the Capuchin Sisters of the Sacred Heart, established by Francesco Maria Di Francia and Mother Veronica Briguglio.
