Alì Terme was born out of Alì, and then swallowed it. Until 1911 it was a frazione of the hill town; once a comune under the name Alì Marina, in 1928 it had Alì attached to it, and Alì lost its autonomy and got it back only in 1946, after some rioting.
Today's name dates from 1954 and says what matters here: the baths. The waters of Granata were known to the Romans, who valued their healing power, and the establishments are still in use. On the name Alì there is also an Arab hypothesis: it would come from ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, Muhammad's son-in-law and cousin. There are 2,567 residents.

Alì Terme celebrates Saint Roch on 16 August with a solemn procession; the saint's cult began from the discovery of his statue in a box on the beach, and is kept in the mother church inaugurated in 1956.
