The patron of Spadafora is Saint Joseph, celebrated with festivities lasting four days, starting on the Sunday following the third Thursday of July; in earlier times they coincided with the traditional cattle fair, a tradition now lost. The saint's statue, a wooden sculpture made by Antonio Zuccaro in 1860, as the inscription at its base records, stands in the church of San Giuseppe, originally the family chapel of the Princes of Spadafora, built at the end of the 16th century and later enlarged over the centuries with the addition of the vault and the sacristy.
On Sunday afternoon, the statue of Saint Joseph, adorned with flowers and accompanied by the town band, is literally fought over by the faithful for the honour of carrying it, on a long tour through the streets of the town.
