The patroness of Borgetto is Saint Mary Magdalene, celebrated on 22 July, with the cathedral dedicated to her at the heart of the town. Besides the liturgical feast, a celebration is also held for the town's name day precisely on the day of Saint Mary Magdalene: in 1775 an observer bore witness to it, noting that in a town of a thousand inhabitants, sixty took part in the procession, described as «extremely large and splendid».
The territory of Borgetto was a Benedictine fief in the late Middle Ages: according to a historical source, Margherita d'Escolo bought the fief in 1351 and, in her will of 1360, entrusted it to Abbot Siniso, leaving the monks funds for the construction of the monastery of Santa Maria delle Ciambre. The town also preserves the church of Sant'Antonio di Padova and the sanctuary of the Madonna del Romitello.
