    The church of Santa Rosalia was born with the town itself: in 1699 prince Gaspare La Grutta, founding the hamlet of Roccella, had one hundred houses, fourteen workshops, a fountain and this church built and dedicated to the saint. The community celebrates her on 4 September, one of the most heartfelt religious dates of the year together with Saint Joseph's day. It stands in the centre of the town laid out at the end of the seventeenth century.
