On 31 December 2004, official records counted 1,050 residents in Gratteri, a mountain municipality that today has 1,019 inhabitants. Known locally in Sicilian as Ratteri, the town spans 38.4 square kilometres within the northern perimeter of the Madonie Regional Park.
Situated 60 kilometres southeast of Palermo and southwest of Cefalù, it overlooks the Tyrrhenian coast from the Madonie mountains. Its municipal boundary borders Cefalù, Lascari, Collesano, and Isnello.
