Marking the southernmost tip of Sicily, Portopalo di Capo Passero sits where the Ionian and Mediterranean seas converge. Located 45 kilometres southwest of Syracuse, this small municipality of 3,749 residents spans just 14.9 square kilometres, benefiting from a subtropical climate with average temperatures ranging between 12°C and 27°C.
Portopalo was part of neighbouring Pachino until gaining administrative independence in 1975. Thanks to the meeting of two seas, local waters are widely regarded as offering some of the finest fishing conditions in the entire Mediterranean region.
