Buseto Palizzolo

Province: Trapani · Region: Sicily · Population: 3,031 · Postal code: 91012

Buseto Palizzolo has no centre: it is a set of hamlets — Badia, Battaglia, Buseto Superiore, Pianoneve — that run into one another on the hills east of Trapani, plus the scattered districts of Bruca, Fazio and Città Povera.

The name comes from the casale Busith, one of those Frederick II granted in 1241 to the men of Monte San Giuliano, and from the Palizzolo, the family that handled the grazing leases here. It has been a comune since 1 August 1950, when it was split off from Erice together with Valderice, Custonaci and San Vito Lo Capo. A few kilometres away is the Scorace wood, one of the largest in western Sicily. There are 3,031 residents.
