In 1607, Marquis Placido Fardella established a new settlement, naming it after his wife, Teresa Paceco of Vigliena. The town's layout is a textbook example of seventeenth-century urban planning, featuring a strictly orthogonal grid. Anchoring the central square is the Cathedral Church of the Holy Crucifix, built in 1623 and recently restored to highlight its original masonry details.
Beyond this historic core, the community of nearly 11,500 residents remains deeply tied to agriculture. Local farms yield melons, olives, grapes, and sheep's milk cheeses. Located just five kilometers from Trapani and served by regular local buses, the town offers a quiet, practical alternative to the coastal crowds.
