The patroness of Paceco is Saint Catherine of Alexandria, celebrated on 25 November. The town was founded under the licentia aedificandi et populandi granted on 9 April 1607 by King Philip III of Spain, king of Sicily, to Marquis Placido Fardella, who thereby obtained the title of Prince of Paceco: the name given to the new town was an act of love by Placido towards his wife Maria Pacheco, niece of the Marquis of Villena, viceroy of Sicily, and its original name was in fact Pacheco.
The territory of Paceco is today known above all for the Nubia salt pans, part of the integrated nature reserve managed by the WWF, and for the production of Nubia red garlic, awarded in 2015 by the Iusm Sapientia Mundi academic foundation on the occasion of the Expo. Among the local traditions, on 13 December, the feast of Saint Lucy, the Sagra della Cuccia is held in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele.
