Amblar-Don came into being on the first of January 2016 from the merger of two comuni of the Val di Non, Amblar and Don, decided by referendum the year before; the seat is at Don. But the history of these two villages is a coming and going that lasted centuries. Together with Romeno they formed the Universitas Romeni, Doni et Amblari, the body that administered the undivided property of the three settlements. After the peace of 1302 between the prince-bishop and the heirs of Meinhard, Don and Amblar passed under the Tyrolean jurisdiction of Castelfondo while Romeno remained under another: and yet the Universitas went on working, astride that border, until 1772.

Then the movement began again: Napoleon reunited the three settlements, which separated once more in the early nineteenth century; in 1928 they were joined again; on 23 August 1952 Amblar and Don became separate comuni once more; and from then on they worked so closely together that in the end they asked to merge. At Amblar stands the parish church of San Vigilio, at Don that of Santa Brigida, and at Amblar too the gate of Vallavena survives. One thing the new comune still does not have: a coat of arms.
