Ruffré-Mendola lies in the Val di Non, a couple of kilometres from the Mendola pass, the col that marks the border with the province of Bolzano. The double name is recent: until 2005 the comune was called simply Ruffré, and since it added the second word it has formally been a scattered comune, because the main village itself has gone on being called Ruffré.
There was once a tramway up to the Mendola: between 1909 and 1934 Ruffré had a stop on the Dermulo-Fondo-Mendola line. Today the village lives off the mountain: on Monte Nock there are a black and a red run, lit for evening skiing, and higher up, towards Monte Roen, a second lift climbs to fifteen hundred metres. At Christmas, by tradition, cribs are set up in the farmsteads. The parish church, at Ruffré, is dedicated to Saint Anthony.
