Sarnonico

Province: Trento · Region: Trentino-South Tyrol · Population: 749 · Postal code: 38011

In 1380 the bishop granted the castle above the village in fief to the de Moris family, who from then on signed themselves with the German name of Moremberg: episcopal investitures were written in German, and the surname adapted. From the sixteenth century the village gave itself written rules: the charter of Sarnonico is of 1587, and six years later came the Charter of the Four Villages, to manage the woods together with Malosco, Ronzone and Seio.

In 1928 the municipality was abolished and put inside Cavareno; it took itself back in 1952, by referendum, and Seio, which had stayed with Cavareno, returned to Sarnonico only in 1964, after another vote. One part of the municipal land, the Regole, lies apart from the rest and cuts the territory of Borgo d'Anaunia in two.
