The patrons of Monte Castello di Vibio are Saints Philip and James, celebrated on 3 May; the church named after them is 19th-century.
The village, though, is famous for something else: the Teatro della Concordia, the smallest Italian-style theatre and one of the smallest historic theatres in the world. It was built in 1808 by nine well-off local families, with the bell-shaped plan typical of the Italian style and decorations by the painter Luigi Agretti of La Spezia; closed in 1951 as unsafe, it reopened restored in 1993, and that is when it began calling itself «the smallest theatre in the world».
