Saint Stephen, patron of the land of the Hermitage of San Gallo
📅 Every year, on 26 December
Farra di Soligo celebrates Saint Stephen on 26 December.
The hills of Farra di Soligo are so steep that tractors cannot climb them: here the vines are worked by hand, which is why people speak of heroic viticulture. Since 2019 that landscape of rows stitched across the slopes has been a UNESCO site, and it yields Conegliano Valdobbiadene, the prosecco of the hills. Five valleys carved by as many streams cut the hills from north to south.
Higher up stand the Credazzo Towers, three towers joined by a wall, a fief of the Da Camino family from 1233 and later of the Collalto; and the church of San Vigilio at Col San Martino, from around 1100, recognisable by the two large clocks mounted on the faces of its Romanesque bell tower. In the garden of Villa de Toffoli grows an oriental plane twenty-eight metres tall, among Italy's monumental trees.
