At Viéring, in the garden of Villa Binel, grows a giant sequoia: one of only two in the whole Aosta Valley, the other standing in the park of the Gamba castle at Châtillon. Viéring was also one of the liveliest Waldensian centres in the region, rooted here after the religious tolerance law of 1848; emigration has since dissolved the community, but the Casa Valdese is still there.

At Hérin lie the remains of the chalcopyrite mine, worked from the eighteenth century for its copper. In the hamlets of the 702 residents the rural buildings survive with their patois names: l'htabio the house, lo pejo the byre, lo payi the hayloft, and the grisse for drying chestnuts. Four bread ovens are still kept.
