Feast of Saint Peter
📅 Every year, on 29 June
On 29 June Châtillon celebrates Saint Peter, in whose church the parish museum is set up, with its 15th-century reliquary casket.
Every Bic biro carries the name of a Châtillon family. Marcel Bich, who founded the company in France, came from local stock, though the town's industrial streak runs far deeper: iron from the Ussel mines was worked here from the fourteenth century, and in 1917 the Soie de Châtillon plant began spinning artificial textile fibres.
Three castles watch over the 4,946 residents: the Passerin d'Entrèves seat, the Ussel manor of 1350 and the Gamba castle, built in 1901 for a local baron. The Pont Neuf still rests on the remains of the Roman bridge that carried the via delle Gallie. On 16 May 1800 Napoleon's vanguard and the Austrian rearguard fought in the basin below.
