It sits exactly where Italy ends against Mont Blanc, and takes everything from that: the walls above the village, the mountain guides — Courmayeur's Guide Society, founded in 1850, is Italy's oldest — and a cable car, the Skyway Monte Bianco opened in 2015, whose cabins rotate as they climb to Punta Helbronner at 3,466 metres.
In winter you ski Chécrouit-Val Veny facing the glacier; in summer the Ferret and Veny valleys are walkers' paradise, with the Tour du Mont Blanc passing through. On Via Roma, après-ski means polenta and mountain wines.
