Pré-Saint-Didier

Province: Aosta · Region: Aosta Valley · Population: 1,012 · Postal code: 11010

The Abbé Henry told the story that the name comes from a priest who fled Lyon in 202, during the persecutions: Didier used to climb up to pray on the shelf above the village, and that meadow became Pré-Saint-Didier. The town, though, is known for two other things: its spa and the Verney gorge.

The territory of its 1,012 residents lies in the Valdigne, the upper valley of the Dora Baltea, at the foot of the gorge cut by the Dora di Verney at the mouth of the La Thuile valley. The climate is alpine and gives nothing away: short cool summers, hard snowy winters.
