Introd

Province: Aosta · Region: Aosta Valley · Population: 632 · Postal code: 11010

In July 2011, while digging to enlarge the nursery school, workers uncovered the well-preserved remains of a woman who lived five thousand years ago: they call her the Lady of Introd, and she is as old as the Iceman of the Similaun. It was not the first surprise: in 1954, at Daillod, a worked standing stone was found beside two skeletons.

The name says where the village sits: Inter Aquas, between the waters, the Dora di Rhêmes and the Savara torrent. The Gran Paradiso National Park begins here. Pierre Sarriod had the castle built in 1260; the castle granary and the L'Ôla farmstead followed in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The 632 residents also have plenty of rock carvings, from the Pierre de Jean-Grat to the Pierre des Enfants.

The Conversion of Saint Paul

📅 Every year, on 25 January

On 25 January Introd celebrates the Conversion of Saint Paul, to which its church is dedicated. In summer it is the hamlets' turn: the black bread festival at Norat and the patron's feast at Arpilles.
