The feast of Christ the King
📅 Every year, on 24 November
Aymavilles has Christ the King as its patron, the title of the parish created in 1926 by uniting the village's two medieval churches, Saint-Martin and Saint-Léger.
The name comes from a Roman colonist, Aimus, whose name can still be read on the Pont d'Aël, the aqueduct bridge on the road that climbed from Aosta to the Little St Bernard. The village sits at the mouth of the Val di Cogne, on the slope that sees little winter sun.
On the morainic hill the castle appears in documents from 1278, and in 1357 Aimone di Challant had it reinforced; it now belongs to the Region and has been restored. In the abandoned mines of Pompiod most of the bats of the Aosta Valley hibernate and breed. Aymavilles is home to the Cave des onze communes, the cooperative winery that brings together growers from eleven comuni; its 2,072 residents have had a single parish since 1926, when Saint-Léger and Saint-Martin were merged.
