The Visitation and the valley's craftsmen
📅 Every year, on 2 July
On 2 July Rhêmes-Notre-Dame celebrates the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary; on the second-to-last Sunday of July, instead, craftsmen from across the Aosta Valley arrive.
A bearded vulture flies on the coat of arms, the bird that had vanished from the Alps and has come back here: at the park visitor centre the exhibition is called Welcome Back Bearded Vulture, and it tells the story from extinction to reintroduction.
With 114 residents this is the least populous comune in the Aosta Valley. The church of Bruil was consecrated in 1495, but became a parish only in June 1650, when it stopped depending on Rhêmes-Saint-Georges; church and bell tower were rebuilt in 1680. On the shore of Lake Pellaud stands an old hydroelectric plant, and on the second-to-last Sunday of July the valley's craftsmen meet here, as they have since 1986.
