The comune's territory ends at the summit of the Gran Paradiso: the boundary with Cogne runs over the top. Below, the whole valley lies inside the national park, and this is where the Gran Paradiso alpine guides have their headquarters.
At Dégioz, next to the town hall, the Maison de la Montagne holds the mountain library and a small display on the guides, with a section for Renato Chabod, who came from Valsavarenche. At Rovenaud there is the Resistance museum named after Émile Chanoux and, built on an old sawmill, the Water and Biodiversity centre, home to three otters. The 187 residents live in villages such as Nex and Tignet, with their late medieval houses.
