Valgrisenche

Province: Aosta · Region: Aosta Valley · Population: 198 · Postal code: 11010

To make the lake of Beauregard, in the 1950s and 1960s, seven villages were abandoned: Fornet, Sevey, Beauregard, Suplun, Chappuis, Surier, Usellières. Some of their houses ended up under water, others are left looking at the shore.

On the silver band of the coat of arms is the pattern of a warp: it stands for the drap, the coarse sheep-wool cloth woven here for centuries, which today becomes blankets and bags. The parish was founded in 1392, and the bell tower of San Grato dates from then. Above the main village of 198 residents still stands the Savoy fort of 1889, now a dormitory for walkers; from the village starts the longest via ferrata in the Aosta Valley.
