The patron saint of Atella is Saint Vitus, celebrated on 15 June. The town's mother church, however, is dedicated to Santa Maria ad Nives (Our Lady of the Snows), celebrated on the first Monday of August with a dawn procession of the painting of the Madonna della Neve, during which the procession of the faithful collects offerings, the «licita»; another procession of the same painting takes place on Easter Monday. The church's façade, on the town's main square, has a pointed-arch portal, a rose window and two niches with statues of Saint Anthony the Abbot and Saint Nicholas of Bari; the single-nave interior holds 16th-century paintings such as the Annunciation.
Atella's religious calendar is also rich in other feasts: on 8 May a pilgrimage reaches the tabernacle dedicated to Saint Michael on the outskirts of the town, and on 13 December Saint Lucy is celebrated, with morning prayers in the cathedral.
