The patron saints of Ripacandida are Saint Donatus and Saint Donatello, celebrated on 7 and 17 August. A papal bull of Eugene III in 1152 decreed the construction, among others, of the church of San Donato, the only one of the four to survive to this day; at the north-eastern entrance to the town stands the sanctuary dedicated to him, with 16th-century frescoes and a thousand-year history.
Recent restoration has uncovered, inside the sanctuary, frescoes of the Holy Trinity, the Madonna del Carmine, and rose windows with Saint Donatus the bishop and Saint Donatello, the latter venerated locally as San Donato da Ripacandida; beside the altar stands also a 17th-century sculpture of the Madonna del Carmine.
