Around 350 to 300 BC, settlers from the nearby ancient city of Atella established the foundations of Cardito. Today, this municipality of roughly 22,300 people sits 14 kilometers northeast of Naples. For decades, the area built a solid reputation strictly around its high strawberry and asparagus yields, but local dairies have since introduced fresh buffalo mozzarella into the town's primary outputs.
Bordering the densely populated centers of Afragola and Casoria, the town is directly accessed via the SS 87 Sannitica national road. While the surrounding metropolitan layout is heavily urbanized, stopping by a roadside shop to buy fresh buffalo cheese remains a highly practical way to experience Cardito's agricultural identity.
