The patron saint of Angri is Saint John the Baptist, celebrated on 24 June. The collegiate church dedicated to him, the town's mother church, was built from 1180 and initially named after Saint Angelo (Saint Michael the Archangel); inside it holds works by Simone da Firenze and Angelo Solimena, as well as the saint's wooden statue and silver bust.
Angri was the birthplace of the first house of the congregation of the Sisters of Saint John the Baptist, founded on 26 September 1878 by Saint Alfonso Maria Fusco, initially called «the Nazarenes» in honour of Jesus of Nazareth and now spread throughout the world: the first young woman to join was the Angri-born Maddalena Caputo. In September, the town also holds the Palio Storico Città di Angri, a re-enactment sponsored by the municipality and based on documentary archive evidence.
