The patron saint of Mercato San Severino is Saint Roch, celebrated on 16 August.
In the hamlet of Acigliano, since time immemorial, the traditional «Ciuccio e Fuoco» has been held on the night of 15 August, an appendix to the solemn religious celebrations in honour of the Most Holy Assumption: it consists of an allegorical float and is thought to have possibly been introduced by the Spanish, modelled on the palio or the bullfight, the same settlers who, establishing themselves in Acigliano, also left architectural evidence of Catalan origin. The town also holds the Medieval Castle and the Hermitage of Sant'Elia.
