The patron saint of Scafati is Saint Mary of the Virgins, celebrated on the Monday after the fourth Sunday of July in the mother church dedicated to her.
Towards the end of May, meanwhile, the distinctive Festa della Madonna dei Bagni is held, an attraction for the whole surrounding plain: the traditional carrettone 'e vagne cart is organised, and homage is paid to the Virgin at the miraculous spring where, about two hundred years earlier, unexplainable events are said to have taken place. The feast retains its charm today thanks to the spontaneous performances of the local people, who, accompanied by their inseparable castagnette, let loose and remain the genuine protagonists of the event.
