Saint Christopher and the Sagra de' Bustrengh
📅 Every year, on 25 July
Borghi celebrates Saint Christopher on 25 July, in the church dedicated to him. The second week of May brings the Sagra de' Bustrengh, rediscovered in the 1970s.
Poggio de' Borghi was the last of them to be built, around 1300, and for two centuries it served above all to keep goods safe: inside the walls stood the town hall, a few houses and the underground cellars. In 1484 the pope handed it to count Sassatelli to pay off a thousand florins owed him for military service.
San Giovanni in Galilea, much older and already named in the Codice bavaro, has nothing biblical about it: Galilea would stand for gallica, from the Senone Gauls who settled here. The bustreng, on the other hand, was made by farming families on Sundays with whatever was left over from the week, sweet or savoury as it came; in the nineteen-seventies it was taken up again, and now it has its own fair.
