Serving as the geographic and administrative center of the Terre Verdiane district, Fidenza is the second-largest municipality in the Parma province. The town is home to 25,521 residents and only adopted its current name in 1927, reviving the Roman settlement of Fidentia.
Prior to the twentieth-century renaming, it was mapped for centuries as Borgo San Donnino. That older identity remains firmly rooted in the local Parmigiano dialect, where residents still colloquially refer to the town as Bùragh.
