Feast of Saint Florian
📅 Every year, on 4 May
On 4 May Tramonti di Sopra, a municipality of 358 inhabitants in the province of Pordenone, celebrates its patron Saint Florian, to whom the town's church is dedicated.
Tramonti di Sopra lies in the upper Val Tramontina, inside the Friulian Dolomites park; in the local Friulian the village is called Vildisora. It is the home of the pitina, a meatball smoked and flavoured with herbs and juniper, and of the formaj dal cit, a cheese kept in a pot and seasoned with pepper. Just outside, on the Meduna torrent, are the Pozze Smeraldine, the emerald pools.
In the side valleys lie two artificial lakes, those of Ca' Zul and Ca' Selva. In 1976 the Friuli earthquake devastated the village, bringing down buildings and causing enormous damage. In the village there is also, uncommonly for these parts, a Waldensian evangelical church. The language of the household is Friulian, in its western variety.
