Here stands the villa that Maecenas gave Horace in 33 before Christ. The river that runs down the valley, and that gives the village its name today, Horace called the Digentia; and in the nymphaeum the Orsini built in the fifteenth century the Fons Bandusiae of the Odes is recognised. In the village there is a civic museum devoted to the poet.

Something else from the past is still alive: the università agraria, the body that administers the community's common property, heir to medieval forms of peasant self-government. The castle, for its part, belonged for centuries to a branch of the Orsini and then to the Borghese. In 1867 the Garibaldian campaign to free Rome passed through here too.
