Campomorone

Province: Genoa · Region: Liguria · Population: 7,306 · Postal code: 16014

In 117 BC the Roman Senate had to deal with a quarrel in a valley. The Ligurian Genuates and the Veiturii Langenses, who lived in the upper Val Polcevera, had been at odds for so long and so badly that a direct intervention from Rome was needed.

Thirty years earlier, in 148, the consul Spurius Postumius Albinus had taken the via Postumia through here, and the valley has remained a road: on 5 December 1583 Genoa opened the new carriageable route that climbed the Polcevera to the Bocchetta pass. The name Campomorone appears in a deed of 1163, for the sale of land to a Genoese consul. There are 7,306 residents.
