On 10 August Cogoleto celebrates its patron, Saint Lawrence: the procession with the typical crucifixes passes through the streets, and it all ends with fireworks. Stalls are set up along the seafront walk, and in front of the oratory, on the feast days, local dishes and focaccia are prepared.
The oratory of San Lorenzo is very old — probably 13th-century — and stands beside the parish church of Santa Maria Maggiore; it mattered a great deal to the townspeople, thanks also to the confraternity of San Lorenzo, founded around 1300. The town also holds tight to another tradition: the one that makes it the birthplace of Christopher Columbus.
