Saint Anthony the Abbot, patron since the first document of 1210
📅 Every year, on 17 January
Mele celebrates Saint Anthony the Abbot on 17 January; the earliest document naming the town's church, dedicated to him, dates from 22 July 1210.
Mele is the paper village. Near the Acquasanta a mill of 1756, restored in 1992 and opened to the public in 1997, has become the museum of papermaking, with workshops where you actually try to make a sheet.
The name, says the motto on the coat of arms, comes from honey: Ex Melle Mihi Nomen. The sanctuary of Nostra Signora dell'Acquasanta, built between 1683 and 1718, stands on Genoa's territory by a few metres — only the stream separates it from the village — and the confraternities of the whole old parish used to climb up to it in pilgrimage, from Arenzano to Pra'. The population is 2,687.
