On the Tabula Peutingeriana, the Roman road map, the settlement of Hasta is given as twenty miles from Genoa. That is 29.6 kilometres: exactly the distance the Istituto Geografico Militare maps give today. Hasta is the centre of Arenzano.
The rest of the comune climbs: two thirds is mountain, inside the Beigua park, and Monte Reixa reaches 1,183 metres. Between the sea and the Apennine ridge there are just 5.7 kilometres here. The old name was Arentianis, perhaps from an estate of the Ligurian Arentii. There are 11,584 residents.
