The parish church of Carpeneto, the hamlet where the town hall of Fascia sits, was rebuilt in the seventeenth century over a fourteenth-century church. In 1647 its community was detached from the parish of San Nicola at Rondanina and made autonomous: that is the date when Fascia, in religious terms, stopped depending on the next valley.
What to see
The high altar dates from 1720 and it is the piece that sets the tone inside. Of the fourteenth-century church that stood here before, practically nothing is left in plain sight: the seventeenth century rebuilt it from scratch, as happened across half the Trebbia valley.
Visiting
Carpeneto is the hamlet where the town hall is, which in a scattered municipality like Fascia does not mean much: there is more than one settlement and the church serves a wide territory. The chapel of San Rocco also depends on the parish, standing on the road just above the houses, and you come across it on the way up.
