Museo della cultura contadina Alta Val Trebbia

📍 Montebruno, Liguria · 29/100

The farming museum of the upper Trebbia valley is housed in the convent beside the sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Montebruno: you go in on the same side, and many people miss it because it is not inside the church.

What to see

It is an ethnographic museum and it gathers what was needed to live up here in past centuries: farm tools, furniture, everyday objects of the peasant communities of the valley, evidence of local craftsmanship. In the same complex, upstairs, there is also the museum of sacred art, while the lower cloister holds a permanent photographic display on the places of worship of the Trebbia valley.

Visiting

It pairs naturally with the sanctuary, which is the reason the convent exists at all. It is worth keeping the two together: on one side devotion and works of art, on the other the tools with which the same people earned their food. It is the valley told from both ends.

Our editors' tip

Ask to see the convent refectory as well, where two frescoes by unknown hands survive: they are in the same building and not everyone knows they are there.
