Favale di Malvaro

Province: Genoa · Region: Liguria · Population: 504 · Postal code: 16040

At Accereto stands the father's house of Amadeo Peter Giannini, who in 1904 founded in California the Bank of Italy: the one that would become the Bank of America. Today it is a museum, with nineteenth-century furnishings and photographs of the emigration; on the last Sunday of June the village holds its Emigrant's Day.

In the nineteenth century the Cereghino, a family of ballad singers, fell out with the parish priest and turned Waldensian, taking half the village with them: in 1849 an evangelical church opened, the only one in the valley. Trials and prison followed, and a plaque of 1853 against 'the heresy'. On 20 January 2013 the bishop of Chiavari and the Waldensian delegate placed another beneath it, of reconciliation. The population is 504.
