In the church of Sant'Andrea the sandstone columns that divide the naves come from a pagan temple, probably of Apollo, over whose ruins the church was raised. When the Saracen pirates came up from the coast, between the ninth and tenth centuries, the people of Ceriana shut themselves inside the walls and poured boiling oil down through the trapdoors.

Gian Battista Embriaco was born here, who in 1867 invented the hydrochronometer: two of his water clocks still stand in Rome, on the Pincio and in the Villa Borghese gardens. And here, in Holy Week, four choirs of local men sing in Latin through the lanes. The population is 1,253.
