The parish church of Nasino is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, patron of the village, celebrated on 24 June, the day of his Nativity. The building goes back to the sixteenth century and stands in the main village, in a valley where churches of this standard are not many.
What to see
What sets it apart from the others in the area are its baroque altars, with the characteristic twisted columns — those wound in a spiral — embraced by carved angels. There are also frescoes of quality and well-made marble work, unusual in a village of a few hundred people.
Visiting
Nasino is a scattered municipality and the town hall is at Costa, while the parish church is in the main village: worth knowing before you set out looking. The village lies in the middle of the Pennavaira valley, below Monte Galero, and the church is best visited together with the sanctuary of the Nativity of Mary, down on the valley floor at Madonna di Curagna.
