Pontinvrea

Province: Savona · Region: Liguria · Population: 846 · Postal code: 17042

The village carries the name of the man who bought it. In 1606 the community of Pareto sold the feudal rights over Ponte dei Prati to the Genoese nobleman Giovan Battista Invrea for 10,500 crosoni, on condition that it be raised to a marquisate: hence Ponte d'Invrea, then Pontinvrea.

It was the Invrea who built the village you see: the marquis's palace, which is now the town hall, the parish church of San Lorenzo and the church of the Carmine. Higher up, towards the Giovo pass, stand the nineteenth-century forts that barred the road into Piedmont. The population is 846.

Saint Lawrence, patron of a town built by the Invrea marquises

📅 Every year, on 10 August

Pontinvrea celebrates Saint Lawrence on 10 August; his church, built in the 17th century on the town's main street, was commissioned along with the nearby marquisal palace, today the town hall, by the Invrea family, who gave rise to the present-day town.
