Saint John the Baptist, patron of Bagnatica
📅 Every year, on 24 June
Bagnatica celebrates Saint John the Baptist on 24 June, in the church dedicated to him.
For twenty-nine years this village did not exist under its own name. In 1927 Bagnatica was joined to Brusaporto in a commune christened Rocca del Colle, a brand-new name that had never belonged to either of them, and it took until 1956 for them to be separated again. A century earlier, in 1820, the district records described it thus: hills planted with vines, coppice woods, silk cocoons and cereals, two quarters — the Tezza, with the oratory of San Pietro, and the Castello, with the remains of the stronghold named in the Guelph and Ghibelline factions — and all 800 inhabitants recorded as farmers, without exception.
Four thousand one hundred and fifty-four inhabitants in the province of Bergamo, on the last hills of the Val Cavallina, below Monte Tomenone, whose 371 metres make it the highest point of that small system standing isolated in the plain. In the parish church of San Giovanni Battista is a Serassi organ of 1738, the second oldest in the province, reworked in the early nineteenth century by the Locatelli and restored in 2010. In 1860, on the Expedition of the Thousand, a citizen of Bagnatica distinguished himself: Prospero Brembilla, who came back with medals for valour.
