Pandino takes its name from a Germanic personal name, a diminutive of Bando or Pando. The first documented mention dates from 1144, when the village church depended on San Sigismondo at Rivolta d'Adda: a sign that it amounted to very few houses among woods, pasture and a little vineyard. Everything changed with Bernabò Visconti, lord of Milan, who had one of his hunting castles built here around the middle of the fourteenth century.

The castle is square, about 66 metres a side, with four corner towers, a moat and an upper loggia of two-light windows; inside, its fourteenth-century painted decoration survives almost in full. Bernabò wanted no chapel within the walls, so the church of Santa Marta was built facing the gate. In the fifteenth century the Sforza ordered town walls that were never finished: the Venetians took the place twice, lost it after the battle of Agnadello in 1509 and came back from Crema a few years later to sack it. The arms show a lion holding a sword; the castle now houses the town hall.
