Saints Peter and Paul, patrons of Lomagna
📅 Every year, on the third Sunday of September
Lomagna celebrates Saints Peter and Paul on the third Sunday of September, in the church dedicated to them.
A text kept in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana records that in the sixteenth century, at Lomagna, the Inquisition sent to the stake a number of women accused of witchcraft. Little else survives from those centuries: the village stood on the via Spluga, the Roman road that climbed from Milan towards the pass of the same name, and in 1661 it became part of the feudal holdings of the Milanese marquis Ludovico Busca.
The parish church of San Pietro was put up in several stages between 1596 and 1624, and Federico Borromeo gave it weight: in 1608 he assigned it the provostship of Barzanò and three years later jurisdiction over the benefice of a church in the pieve of Missaglia. In his day there were two others in the village which have not come down to us: that of Sant'Alessandro, pulled down because it was about to fall, and that of San Silvestro, which in 1611 fell on its own.
