In 1863, throughout the newborn Kingdom, villages with too common a name had to tell themselves apart. Casaletto chose the region and became Casaletto Lodigiano; neighbouring Caselle, a few kilometres from here, chose instead the surname of its own lords and became Caselle Lurani. Curiously the Lurani had been masters of Casaletto too, after the Masserati: two bordering villages, the same problem, the same family behind them and two opposite solutions.
In 1870 Gugnano and Villarossa were joined to the municipality, and the parish churches of Casaletto, Gugnano and Mairano remain the most important artistic evidence of the territory. Between 1881 and 1931 there was a stop at Mairano on the Melegnano-Sant'Angelo Lodigiano tramway, the same line that served Caselle. Since the nineteen-seventies the hamlet of Mairano has filled with houses, while the countryside goes on producing maize, wheat, fodder and milk. Two thousand seven hundred and seventy-nine inhabitants in the province of Lodi.
