Saint Bartholomew, patron of Sordio
📅 Every year, on 24 August
Sordio celebrates Saint Bartholomew on 24 August, in the church dedicated to him.
The railway stop that serves Sordio is not called Sordio. It is called San Zenone al Lambro, like the neighbouring municipality, and it serves the built-up area of Sordio and the hamlet of Villa Bissone, which however lies in San Zenone's territory: the name is on one side, the passengers on the other. The line is the historic Milan-Bologna, opened in 1861, which brushes the southern edge of the municipality together with the high-speed line brought into service in 2008.
The rest of the village is likewise cut by what passes through it. The via Emilia skirts the houses, and the provincial road that branches off it towards Dresano and Peschiera Borromeo divides Sordio into two parts. From 1880 to 1931 the interurban tramway Milan-Lodi also ran along the via Emilia. In the Napoleonic age the municipality had been a hamlet of Cologno, and regained its autonomy with the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia; real growth came from the nineteen-fifties onward, precisely thanks to the nearness of the road and the railway. Three thousand one hundred and forty-nine inhabitants in the province of Lodi.
