The name of Dresano counts something that is no longer there. In these marshy lands there were three inlets, three sinuses, and from that comes the word: Tresseno, then Tressano, Tresano, finally Dresano. The three inlets ended up in the municipal arms, surmounted by three poplars, the typical tree of this part of the plain. In heraldry those poplars are called nourished, because they are drawn without roots: they are hidden by the campagna, that is by the lower band of the shield.
The marshes were drained by Benedictine monks, and of their convent there remains, on the east side of piazza Manzoni, the wall of a house with a massive wooden door; in this area there was malaria. A little outside the village, in the middle of the fields, stands the Belpensiero farmstead, mentioned in sixteenth-century sources, with a centuries-old plane tree in its yard. The village is tied by history and by church to Lodi, but when in 1995 the province of Lodi came into operation Dresano chose to stay in that of Milan. Three thousand and twenty-three inhabitants.
